| With Journler now no longer in development, what are other users planning to switch to? |

I'm not sure. If there would be a future safe tagging system in OS X, I think this would be fine for me. OpenMeta looks promising.
Otherwise I think DevonThink or Together are interesting alternatives. In DevonThink I really miss the tagging in the moment (which will be in the final of 2.0). Together looks nice and shares many possbilities regarding the resource management, but I'm not sure, how it behaves with some thousand entries and lots of resources.
Since most apps are scriptable, I think a migration script would be some evenings work, but easier to realize then migrating all entries by hand. Maybe we can share our expiriences here in this forum. |

Sharing scripts is a good idea.
What about Yojimbo? |

I will continue to use Journler until it doesn't work anymore as I have a lot of stuff in there.
However, I won't put anything new in there and am now using a file system on my desktop to keep things tidy.
I like the look of Mac Journal to a point but it doesn't seem that you can change the icons on the entries or folders.
I think you can do this with some other software but then they have other things I don't like.
Looks like we will all be looking for something else and I agree that we should share anu info, thoughts, script ideas etc until we find what we want.
Hopefully someone may pick up on Journler one day and continue development but most of i guess can't wait for that day to come when we rely on something for our day to day work, research, studies etc. |

| I went for MacJournal, meets almost all of my needs plus gives me encryption. Conversion of entries from 18 dec 2005 all went well (I am not using a lot of ref etc, mostly function as a diary). I will keep my Journler system running for as while but most of my emphasis will be towards MacJournal |

| To be expected; Phil did one of the most thorough jobs of adding AppleScript functionality to Journler than I've ever seen, and when I (in the early days) broke stuff with my scripts, he always fixed the bug in the next version. I'll really miss that interaction. |

MacJournal is due to have an iPhone/iPod Touch app soon which will be very useful to me and many others I think.
Some apps like Journler already have iPhone apps. These being Dropbox, Shovebox and Vi Journal.
Other's I'm looking at are Midnight Inbox, Memoires, Eagle Filer and Yojimbo.
All of the above have good points and not so good points. |

| I'm going to miss Journler. I've got several years of work on Journler now. I had become a little worried that with Snow Leopard and future apple updates, Journler might become obsolete. I'm glad it's running on SL, but I guess I should move on and get used to another program. I chose Journler out of many many other similar programs... ah, sad news. |

I'm looking at evernote, especially as there is a (promised) iCal integration coming.
I've used an applescript I found (http://www.ajmani.org/blog/?p=13) to trial some transfers, but am going to look at improving it to import tags and categories somehow. |

I started another thread 'Jumped ship after all this time' in this forum and it might be worthwhile to read some of the comments about other software.
I jumped ship quite a while ago, tried MacJournal, but it seemed to 'notebooky' for me.
I use Devonthink Personal now, and it is excellent. I think I can do most of what I could do in Journler in DT and more.
I used to have around 1000 entries in journler, and started to get the 'smart folder doesn't update properly' bug happening.
I don't know how many I have in DT, but the data base size is just under 10GB (and I don't have many photos in there, a hundred small jps at most). Mostly made up of .pdfs, web clippings and text entries. It hasn't crashed or misbehaved in any way.
I really don't want to go through the process of swapping software again. |

I hope more people post here. I'm really interested in what people are migrating to.
I discovered today that there's a great trick for migrating Journler entries into MacJournal:
| Quote: | | You can import Journler entries by dragging the Journler Entries folder from Library/Application Support/Journler into the sidebar in MacJournal |
But I'm bummed because I REALLY need advanced tagging--like Leap/Yep! or better. And the webpages for MacJournal don't say anything about tagging!
Any big-time tagging gurus, please let me know what you recommend. Thanks! |

| I'm seriously considering the Leap/Yep path (OpenMeta) based on the filesystem. |
